February 10, 2003 Dear Friends, Waging peace costs money. The movement also needs inspiration, and more than ever, information. That's why we're so happy to tell you about the following project that will not only raise needed funds peace and justice organizations, but will also inspire and educate an information-starved public in the process. With the propaganda machine grinding on, voices of reason and of passion for peace are sorely needed. We're very excited to be in the process of creating a compact disc that will include today's most inspirational peace music, and most informative speakers. This work will help reach those who are still undecided about whether or not a war against Iraq is justified and worth the cost of, no doubt, tens of thousands of lives. JOINT PROJECT OF MUSICIANS AND FINE ARTISTS FOR WORLD PEACE, THE PACIFICA RADIO ARCHIVES, AND THE THIRD IN THE UNITY NETWORK'S "SOUNDTRACK FOR PEACE PROJECT" - This compact disc, or disc set, will be a compilation featuring up to 30 songs of peace, as well as recent speeches by some of today's most powerful and credible advocates for peace. Among those featured will be Scott Ritter, former U.N. Chief Weapons Inspector in Iraq. This project is strictly not-for-profit. The will be wholesaled to peace and justice organizations and used exclusively by them to fund their important peace work We're writing because we need your help. We are looking for 20 to 30 or so of today's most compelling songs that deal with the topic of war and peace, the people of Iraq, and related themes. We are seeking contributions of produced music for one-time contribution as part of this compilation. Through the generosity of other organizations, we may be able to provide assistance in producing finished recordings, so simple demos are acceptable. WHERE TO SUBMIT, AND WHEN - We are currently accepting submissions which should be sent directly to Alan Moore, Musicians and Fine Artists for World Peace, P.O. Box 1511, Vallejo, Ca 94590. We will accept submissions We would like all artists involved with this project to be listed on the SOUNDTRACK FOR PEACE PROJECT - You may already be aware of "Not in Our Name," the first in the Unity Network's Soundrack for Peace Project, featuring the the Pacifica Radio Archives' "Voices for Peace" with commentary by Lord Bertrand Russell, Gore Vidal, Maxine Waters, Howard Zinn, Michael Moore and others. In recognition of the racism that underpins the current march to war, the album also includes, uncut, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream," as relevent and powerfully inspiring today as it was when Dr. King delivered it. Finally, the CD contains and the peace anthem by the group SHINE, "Not in Our Name," featured recently on a national public radio. "Voices of Conscience for Iraq" produced by Two Irises Productions is a stunning compilation audio, video and text CD featuring recent interviews with and persuasive speeches Western Physicians for Social Responsibility We look forward to reviewing your submission, and thank you in advance for your interest in helping wage peace. Chant For Peace Event Dear Friends: As the U.S. continues to move closer to war with Iraq, I have gone through stages of frustration, anger, and sadness. I try to acknowledge those responses, then to find my way back to some balance. In recent days, I have been feeling called to organize an event tentatively called "Chant For Peace." I envision a day of people leading chants and meditations in the Hindu, Buddhist, and Pagan traditions, and in other loving spiritual traditions who wish to join us. There may be a few brief performances (singer/songwriter, dance, etc.) and speakers (peace movement, the power of mantra, etc.). I envision a truly peaceful gathering that focuses on generating loving energy within ourselves and for the world, and on opening to the reality of light and balance that is already within us. The timing of the event is in response to the current movement toward war, though I hope that our mood will remain less in the mode of "us-against-them" confrontation (though of course I respect and learn much from this mode of organizing, too) than in one of love, prayer, and experiencing connectedness with All. I envision high visibility so that as many people as possible are aware of this happening; I hope that it can happen again in even larger numbers and in different cities. I hope to bring about this first event in Philadelphia or South Jersey, with a tentative date as early as Sunday, March 2nd. I ask for your help. We will need to pull together a group of organizers, a venue, and as much publicity as possible very quickly. Please pass the word along to all individuals and organizations that you know about who may want to get involved, provide space, resources, or donations, to give advice, to lead chanting, to speak, or to perform. Please contact me at rebr2@aol.com with your ideas. Here is a preliminary list of tasks and things needed to make this all choose date, time, and venue I believe that the way we hold ourselves in the world really does matter.
